pewag servostar snow chain FAQs

Pre-Sales

There are vehicles with no clearance on the wheel inside. Traditional snow chains are not usable in this case. External chains are the only solution.

External chains are offering an adequate performance level which are considered in line with the legal snow chain requirements. Due to the construction, traditional chains are more performing as they can cover the entire tire section. But traditional chains can’t be fitted on vehicles, on which external chains are possible. pewag servostar is offering the best possible performance for this vehicles.

Once prepared it is a chain which is easy for mounting. Nevertheless pewag servomatik is the easiest chain for mounting. But the pewag servomatik has its limitations, when it depends on wheelhouse clearance.

Yes, the product is ÖNORM V5117 certified. Also they are tested according to the new European Standard EN 16662-1.

Yes, as it can happen to every chain model, if the mounting was not done correctly or the chain is too big. For the pewag servostar chain the proper fixation on the wheel bolt is necessary to prevent this.

If mounted correctly, the construction of the pewag servostar works as a rim protector.

With the adapters 17mm, 19mm, 21/22mm the pewag servostar chain is covering all common wheel nuts.

The pewag servostar is fitting on all original rims in the market.

It depends on the size model of the chain. If the new car and new tires can also be fitted by this chain size (check pewag snow chain configurator), then the answer is yes. In this case, a new adaption could be necessary.

After-Sales

Consider that you have to follow this steps: Move the slider into direction ‘Open’ until it stops, then move back a little (not the whole way) and then again completely to ‘Open’. Simultaneously press the whole ratchet towards the rim. If it is still not working, please contact the pewag customer service.

If you adjusted the chain correctly you can start driving. After 100m driving on a wet ground the chain should be positioned on the tire. If this is not the case, then you can remove one extra (yellow) adjusting element. If it is still too small, you can remove one grey element, but only ONE as the grey elements are important for the elasticity and tension of the chain.

If you adjusted the chain correctly you can start driving. After 100m driving on a wet ground the chain should be positioned on the tire. If it is too large it will also be on the tire, but it will not be in tension. You can test the tension if you take a look on the remaining elements. The spring has to be compressed. If this is not the case, the chain is too large. Then put in again the adjusting elements.

The size number of the chain can be found on one of the four plastic plates.

Please check if the tire of the car does not stand on one arm of the chain. To totally remove the chain after the demounting steps, you have move the car a little bit so that the chains are completely free.

If the adapter cannot be removed from the wheel nut, you can unscrew the handle, so that only the adapter without sleeve is attached to the wheel nut. Then screw the screw into the adapter and use the screw as a handle to move the adapter back and forth for loosening and removing. The more you screw the screw into the adapter, the easier you can remove the adapter from the wheel nut.
