Lifting Done Right: How pewag’s New Mobile Crane Catalogue Tackles the Realities of On-Site Lifting

Mobile crane work is some of the most demanding lifting in the industry. Loads change from job to job, ground conditions are rarely ideal, schedules are tight, and crews often work within metres of suspended weights that can run to hundreds of tonnes.

pewag’s new solutions and services for mobile crane applications catalogue brings products relevant to mobile crane operators together in one place and it doubles as a useful map of how the right mobile crane lifting equipment can make those operations safer, faster and easier to manage.

This article walks through what the catalogue covers, but with mobile crane operations kept firmly at its heart: the challenges crews face today, why certification matters, the advantage of sourcing from a single manufacturer, and the technologies and services that turn a pile of rigging gear into a coherent, dependable lifting system.

The challenges in mobile crane operations today

Anyone who has run a mobile crane knows the work rarely happens in controlled conditions. Sites are uneven, often exposed to weather, and frequently mid-construction. That introduces a familiar set of pressures: variable terrain that affects access and stability; dynamic loads that shift and swing; time pressure that tempts crews to cut corners; and the constant risk that comes from people working close to suspended weights.

On top of the physical hazards sits an administrative one. Every lifting component has to be certified, inspected and documented and on a busy site with mixed equipment from several suppliers, keeping that paperwork straight is a genuine burden. Compatibility is another quiet problem: components that don’t share a common connection system can slow crews down and introduce weak points. The right equipment doesn’t just lift the load; it answers all of these problems at once.

Why reliable, certified lifting equipment matters

In lifting, certification is not box-ticking, it is the difference between a controlled operation and an avoidable accident. pewag engineers its products around clear safety margins, and that thinking runs through the catalogue. pewag’s Snatch Blocks are built to a 4:1 safety factor, the LMS load-monitoring range is proof-load tested to 200% of capacity, and shackles are designed and produced in-house, giving pewag direct control over quality and traceability.

For a crane crew, that reliability translates into confidence: equipment that performs as rated, certificates that stand up to scrutiny, and a lower chance of the kind of failure that stops a job, or worse. When the lifting gear is dependable and properly documented, the whole operation becomes more predictable.

 The single-supplier advantage

The catalogue makes pewag’s position plain with a single phrase: your one-stop manufacturer. For mobile crane operators, sourcing lifting solutions from one supplier and, better still, from one manufacturer carries real, practical benefits.

One manufacturer, consistent quality

When chain slings, shackles, hooks, spreader beams and monitoring equipment come from the same manufacturer, they share the same engineering standards and quality controls. There are no surprises from a mismatched batch and no guessing about how one maker’s tolerances compare with another’s.

Compatibility that works on-site

pewag’s intelligent connection systems mean components are designed to work together. Crews spend less time improvising connections and more time lifting, with fewer of the weak points that creep in when incompatible parts are forced to fit.

Unified support and documentation

A single source also means a single point of contact for inspection, certification, spare parts and advice. Instead of chasing several suppliers for paperwork, operators get consistent support and a coherent record of their entire lifting inventory.

Safe, efficient load handling with chain and textile slings

Slings are the workhorses of any lift, and the catalogue covers the full spread so crews can match the tool to the load.

G12 Plus chain slings

pewag’s chain sling systems are built in grade G12 Plus for an optimised strength-to-weight ratio, with intelligent connection systems for flexible on-site handling and minimal wear for easy inspection. Standardised, ready-made slings are offered in 3 m (10 ft) and 7 m (25 ft) lengths complete with all components, alongside fully customised configurations. Four-leg working load limits run from 11,200 kg on the winplus 10 up to 26,500 kg on the winplus 16 at the most favourable inclination.

Textile and wire rope slings

Where loads have sensitive surfaces or weight is a concern, textile slings are the better choice. pewag’s polyester webbing and round slings are lightweight, easy to handle, gentle on finished surfaces and more cost-effective than chain, with round slings rated up to 300 tonnes and clear colour-coding for safe selection. For demanding industrial lifts, Grade 10 wire rope slings combine master links, hooks, shackles and spare parts into strong, durable assemblies.

Innovative technologies that enhance safety

The Mobile Crane Applications Catalogue highlights how pewag’s broad range of lifting products changes how crews interact with the load, keeping people away from danger while speeding the work up.

levo hook: automated, hands-free attachment

The levo hook is an automated lifting device that attaches and releases loads by remote control. The safety logic is simple but powerful: if no one has to stand under or beside a suspended load to hook or unhook it, that exposure risk largely disappears. The hands-free cycle also streamlines workflow, and the range spans 5,000 kg (LH5) to 32,000 kg (LH32), with Connex and Masterlink options and worldwide service support.

Swivels, snatch blocks and advanced connections

The Snatch Block (SBRH) is built specifically for mobile crane use, with a bolt-release mechanism that makes inserting wire rope quick, ideal for time-sensitive jobs and a bolt that cannot be lost during handling. Rated for 4, 8 or 12 tonnes at a 4:1 safety factor, with powder-coated corrosion resistance and a compact build, it is well suited to the dynamic, changeable conditions of field work.

Reducing exposure, improving efficiency

Taken together, these technologies serve two goals at once: pulling workers back from hazardous lifting zones, and removing the manual fiddling that slows a lift down. Safer and faster are not competing priorities here: the same kit delivers both.

Solutions for complex and heavy lifting

Not every lift is a simple pick. For awkward, oversized or very heavy loads, pewag offers below-the-hook solutions designed for adaptability.

  • Modulift MOD® Spreader Beama modular system rated from 6 to 2,000 tonnes with spans from 0.4 to 36 m. It reconfigures into different beam and frame setups, is lightweight enough for crane crews to transport easily, and is reusable across varied tasks.
  • pewag shackles: in-house bolt-type and screw-pin designs with working load limits from 2 to 1,500 tonnes, giving reliable connection points across the full range of lifting requirements.
  • StrongHold rigging lockers: extreme-duty storage that keeps chains, hoists, straps and lifting points organised, inspectable and ready, which matters as much on a busy site as the lift itself.

Load monitoring and control during the lift

Knowing exactly what is on the hook is fundamental to a safe lift, and pewag’s LMS range builds monitoring directly into the rigging.

LMS Load Links handle loads from 1 to 500 tonnes, built from lightweight aircraft-grade aluminium, accurate to 0.5% of applied load, wireless to 800+ metres and IP67-rated against water and dust. LMS Load Pin Shackles extend precise tensile monitoring from 3.25 to 2,000 tonnes and let crews link up to twelve shackles to a single handheld display, reading individual or total loads. Both are 200% proof-load tested and run up to 3,000 hours on a single battery. For mobile crane operators, that means real-time load data without dragging cables across a site.

Equipment built for mobile crane applications

What ties the catalogue together is how much of it is designed for mobility rather than the fixed conditions of a workshop. Load links are engineered for dynamic, on-the-go lifting; snatch blocks are compact and field-ready; spreader beams are light enough to move between jobs; and pewag’s snow and traction chains keep heavy crane vehicles reaching sites even in difficult winter conditions. This is gear that expects to be moved, set up quickly and trusted in the field.

Technical support, service and training

Good equipment is only half the story. pewag are a partner across the full lifecycle of a lifting operation and not just a product supplier.

  • Technical consulting: direct access to specialists who help with product selection and application, drawing on knowledge of both the products and the demands of specific industries.
  • Documentation and certificates: online certificates give instant access to inspection reports without the usual waiting times, keeping compliance paperwork in order.
  • Training: the pewag academy delivers online courses on products and their correct use, available anytime, anywhere.
  • Maintenance and service: inspection and maintenance across Europe through pewag’s own team, and in the US through qualified partner companies.
  • Spare parts: ready availability that keeps equipment in service and minimises downtime.

Digital tools round this out: configurators and product advisors help crews find or build the right solution for a specific lift, online, in minutes.

New product line: pewag practrack forestry tracks

In addition to the bluetrack premium line, pewag now also offers the practrack entry-level forestry tracks as a reliable product for all types of forestry work.

The pewag practrack forestry tracks are reliable quality products that enable efficient work in rough terrain. While the bluetrack line is suitable for heavy forestry work under demanding conditions, the practrack line is used in light to medium forestry operations with harvesters, skidders and forwarders on the unloaded side. Due to the lower purchase price, practrack forestry tracks are also ideal as a retrofit solution on used machines.

practrack forestry tracks offer an optimal price-performance ratio and ensure maximum safety and efficiency. The pewag prac stubs ensure good traction and stability and increase off-road mobility on all surfaces. Unlike bluetrack forestry tracks, pewag practracks have one welded-on stub per cross member as standard. The lower number of crossbars on practracks increases self-cleaning power, as mud, branches, stones and snow are less likely to get stuck between the tires and the belt. In addition, the low weight ensures better maneuverability of the machine and low fuel consumption.

Main features of the pewag practrack forestry tracks at a glance:
– Entry-level line with very good price-performance ratio
