Built to Keep Your Operations Moving: Introducing Our New Conveyor Chains and Components Catalog
At pewag, we know that conveyor systems don’t get the luxury of unplanned downtime. Whether you’re handling bulk materials in a cement plant, moving grain through an agricultural facility, or running continuous extraction in a mining operation, the chain is the heartbeat of your process and it has to keep beating.
That’s why we’re proud to announce the launch of our new Conveyor Chains & Components catalog: a complete, 56-page technical guide to the high-performance chain solutions we’ve developed over more than five centuries of metallurgical expertise.
What’s Inside the Catalog
A Complete System Overview
The catalog is built around the reality that a conveyor chain is never just a chain. It’s a system. That’s why we’ve brought together everything in one place: conveyor chains, connecting links, chain shackles, flight and bucket attachments, toothed and plain chain wheels, buckets, and custom solutions all presented with full technical specifications and compatibility matrices to make selection straightforward.
A dedicated bucket elevator configurator helps engineers identify the right system configuration based on discharge method, operating speed, chain type, and attachment requirements whether that’s a centrifugal or gravity discharge application.
The pewag hero Friction-Welded Chain
One of the centrepieces of the catalog is the pewag hero: our friction-welded chain that represents a genuine step forward in conveyor chain technology.
Unlike conventional round steel chains that are formed by bending and welding wire rod, pewag hero is produced from forged steel components joined through friction welding, a technique long proven in aviation and automotive manufacturing. pewag is the first chain manufacturer in the world to adapt and refine this process for chain production.
The results speak for themselves:
- 30% longer service life in comparable operating conditions, validated in demanding environments including cement bucket elevators
- No pairing process required: consistent strand lengths with a production tolerance of just 0.05%, allowing parallel installation without matching
- Longer chain strands: standard delivery lengths are double those of conventional round steel chains, reducing the number of connecting points and simplifying installation
Round Steel Conveyor Chains
For applications where round steel chains remain the right choice, the catalog covers pewag’s full range; manufactured from fine-grained, non-ageing special steel with continuous heat treatment for uniform hardness and strength throughout every link.
Available in dimensions from 14 × 50 mm up to 38 × 144 mm, case-hardened grades are rated for operating temperatures up to 200 °C without loss of surface hardness. Close production tolerances ensure smooth, parallel running over sprockets and consistent wear across matched components.
Components Built for the System
The catalog gives equal weight to the components that complete the chain system:
- Connecting links: K-series and V-series, with compatibility clearly mapped across the full chain range
- Flight attachments: KFB, FDD, SDS, SDD, and SG variants for scraper conveyor applications
- Bucket attachments: BDS, BDDS, SDS, and SDD configurations for bucket elevator systems
- Chain wheels: RHV and IR toothed sprockets with replaceable teeth, SEG-E and KS/KSE plain segmented wheels with replaceable segments, plain tail and idler wheels, and cast chain wheels
A comprehensive availability matrix maps every component to compatible chain dimensions, making it easier to specify a complete, correctly matched system from the outset.
Application Sections: Bucket Elevators and Scraper Conveyors
Rather than presenting products in isolation, the catalog is structured around the two primary application areas where pewag conveyor chains prove themselves every day.
The bucket elevator section addresses the demands of vertical conveying under high tensile loads covering chain selection, drive and tail wheel configurations, and bucket attachment options for both centrifugal and gravity discharge systems. Industries covered include cement, fertilizer, and plaster production.
The scraper conveyor section addresses the challenges of horizontal or slightly inclined bulk material handling, where chains face continuous exposure to abrasive fines and high drag forces. Application areas include agriculture, and power generation.
Both sections include worked system examples that illustrate how chains, wheels, attachments, and connecting elements come together in real installations.
Service and Maintenance Guidance
The catalog closes with practical wear measurement and assembly instructions: supporting maintenance teams in the field with clear guidance on monitoring chain condition and planning timely replacements before unplanned failures occur.
Engineered in Austria. Proven Globally.
pewag conveyor technique is part of a group with roots going back to 1479, operating across more than 100 countries from 18 production sites on five continents. Our metallurgical expertise and commitment to continuous improvement are reflected in every link we produce.
We are also committed to doing this responsibly, with a target of CO₂-neutral production by 2030, and ongoing investment in renewable energy and sustainable manufacturing processes.
