Distinguished by Quality,
Traction and Durability
pewag Tyre Protection Chains are designed to protect high-value earthmover tyres from cuts, punctures and premature wear in demanding environments. Built for heavy-duty mining, quarrying, tunnelling and slag handling applications, our chains help extend tyre life, improve traction and reduce costly machine downtime.
With durable mesh designs and application-specific chain solutions, pewag supports operators working across sharp rock, abrasive ground conditions and extreme industrial environments from the Pilbara’s iron ore operations to quarrying and construction sites across the country.

Supplied and supported from NSW and WA
pewag Australia works from two offices: its head office at Barrack Heights in NSW, and a Western Australian office at Canning Vale in Perth. That puts support close to both the east coast quarrying and steel regions and the WA goldfields and Pilbara. [confirm: which office stocks TPC and spare parts]
After-sales support covers:
- Technical assistance and chain repair by pewag chain specialists
- Training for site crews in mounting, tensioning, repair, adjustment and removal
- Inspection visits with performance reporting, so you can track chain and tyre life
- Spare parts and special tools for chain handling and maintenance
- Manuals and risk assessments for chain work
pewag Goes Big
Mining machines, such as wheel loaders (WA 1200, CAT 994, WE 2350) and dump trucks (CAT 797, HD 930), are becoming increasingly larger and heavier and so are their tyres (70/70-57; 59/80-63). In 1992, pewag made history as a pioneer by fitting a CAT 994 for the first time, and in 2003 by outfitting the world’s largest tyre at the time (60/80-57). Setting the standard in durability, pewag launched a new generation of highly robust 23mm tyre protection chains in 2006, which were successfully fitted in 2007 on the world’s largest wheel loader, the WE 2350 (70/70-57).
pewag Goes Underground
Specially designed reinforced chain solutions by pewag deliver maximum strength for underground mining operations. These chains offer optimal wear resistance and enhanced flank protection through a dense inside and outside mesh, ensuring durability even in the harshest conditions.

What Makes Our Products Stand Out
Earthmover tyres represent one of the highest single consumable cost factors for operating wheeled units. These valuable assets are vulnerable to cuts, punctures and other damage. With a global shortage of these specialised tyres, pewag Tyre Protection Chains provide an effective solution to extend tyre life and reduce operational costs – a critical consideration for Australian mine and quarry operators managing fleet uptime across remote sites.
pewag Tyre Protection Chains are manufactured to meet the demands of Australian mining and quarrying operations, supporting compliance with site safety and equipment standards.
Fitting and removing tyre protection chains is part of your tyre and wheel work. pewag supplies manuals and risk assessments for chain handling, so you can build chain work into the same site procedures you use for earthmover tyre maintenance under AS 4457.2:2024.
Matching the chain to your rock
How fast a chain wears depends mostly on how hard and abrasive the rock is, measured on the Mohs scale. pewag groups its links into three bands:
| Rock hardness (Mohs) | Typical material | Recommended links |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 (soft to medium) | Limestone, gypsum, calcite | tyro (14, 16, 18), spike 21 |
| 5–7 (medium to hard) | Iron ore, basalt, most quarry rock | granite (12 to 18/20S), compact 21 |
| 7–10 (hard, high quartz) | Quartzite, granite with high quartz content | tycoon (14, 16, 20, 23), tycoon ultimate, ringstar 16 |
Industries and Applications
pewag Tyre Protection Chains play a critical role in heavy-duty industries by enhancing tyre durability in the harshest environments. In open-cut mining, they protect against sharp rocks, significantly reducing downtime. In underground mining and tunnelling, they ensure reliable traction and safeguard against debris.
For quarrying, they support heavy loads on uneven terrain, while in slag and scrap handling, they preserve tyre integrity amidst sharp materials. Across these demanding applications, including operations in WA, QLD and NSW, pewag chains extend tyre life and boost operational efficiency.
Make the Right Decision
A steel mesh of links and rings fitted over an earthmover tyre’s tread and sidewalls. It takes the cuts and abrasion that would otherwise damage the tyre, and adds traction.
Standard chains are mainly for loaders and dozers. For dump trucks, pewag’s flank protection chain protects the sidewalls against berms and high bank faces, in sizes from 18.00-25 up to 59/80-63, with no speed limit.
Some links, such as tycoon ultimate, have wear indicators showing 25, 50, 75 and 100% wear. pewag’s inspection visits also report on chain condition.
