Tyre Protection Chains for Quarrying
From aggregates to ornamental stone, quarrying puts tyres to work across every kind of rock and ground condition. pewag tyre protection chains shield high-value earthmover tyres from cuts, abrasion and impact, extending tyre life and keeping loaders and haulers productive across soft, medium and hard rock.
Australia’s quarrying sector spans everything from sand and gravel pits to hard rock and dimension stone operations, and pewag’s range is built to match the right chain to each.

Where chains pay back in a quarry
Most quarries run one to three shifts, with a loader doing load-and-carry work across sharp, broken rock. A single tyre is a large share of a small fleet’s budget, and a loader off the floor can stop production.
Chains on the face loader do the most good. A chained loader also compacts the floor as it works, which helps protect the haul trucks’ tyres too, and fitting all four loader wheels gives the best result. Because chains make tyre and chain life predictable, pewag can report on chain and tyre life so you can budget for both.
Quarrying Chain Products
Quarrying covers everything from soft aggregates to hard ornamental rock, so pewag offers one of the widest tyre protection chain ranges for the job. It includes the all-round tyro for soft to medium rock, the deep-grip spike for softer materials, the multifunctional granite for mixed rock, the heavy-duty compact for the largest loaders, and the dense-mesh ringstar and tycoon for the hardest, most abrasive stone. Each is available in square or hexa mesh to balance tyre protection and traction.
From limestone to granite
Australian quarries work everything from soft limestone and sand and gravel to hard basalt, granite and dimension stone. Match the chain to the hardest rock the machine works in:
- Soft rock such as limestone: tyro (14, 16, 18), for small to large machines
- Medium-hard rock such as basalt: granite (12 to 18/20S), pewag’s multipurpose link
- Hard, quartz-rich granite: tycoon or ringstar, for the most abrasive faces
Where grip matters more than protection, such as on steep or slippery haul ramps, hexa mesh or the traction meshes (quad cross, compact cross) help. Spike links, with prominent grip teeth, are made for traction.
FAQ for Quarrying
pewag offers one of the widest ranges of TPC for quarrying, covering soft to hard rock. It includes tyro for soft to medium rock, spike for softer materials needing extra grip, granite for mixed rock, compact for the largest loaders, and ringstar and tycoon for the hardest, most abrasive stone. Each is available in square and hexa mesh designs.
Rock hardness is the main guide. spike and tyro suit softer aggregates, granite and compact cover medium rock, and ringstar and tycoon are built for hard, highly abrasive stone. pewag can match the right chain to your material, machine and ground conditions.
Square mesh provides the finest, densest coverage for maximum tyre protection, even on the sharpest rock. Hexa mesh adds grip alongside protection. Quad cross uses an 8-link construction for tough traction applications, and compact cross uses a 10-link construction for grip, stable running and self-cleaning. pewag can advise the best mesh for your rock type and machine.
They are typically fitted to wheel loaders, dump trucks and other earthmoving machines working in quarries, protecting the tyres that keep extraction and material movement running.
