\n\tNow, Welsh Water no longer\u00a0inspects for the sake of compliance but\u00a0now\u00a0fully considers the risk\u00a0to be\u00a0smarter\u00a0in reducing capital\u00a0costs whilst at least\u00a0upholding safety standards.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\t

\n\tWelsh Water had already used\u00a0pewag\u00a0pump chains in several installations, impressed by their build quality and\u00a0track record. But the real\u00a0game-changer\u00a0was the introduction of a bespoke Written Scheme of Examination.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\t

This site-specific insight was translated into a Written Scheme compliant with LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) but\u00a0tailored to Welsh Water\u2019s real-world context.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\t

\n\tThe performance of the\u00a0pewag\u00a0chains<\/a> and the clarity of the Written Scheme\u00a0has\u00a0created\u00a0confidence\u00a0and\u00a0significantly reduce\u00a0capital costs, without compromising safety. \n\tOver a\u00a0decade later, the results are beyond expectation. Independent tensile testing of chains removed for evaluation confirmed that the load-bearing strength is unchanged from the day they were installed. Surface inspections revealed no visible signs of corrosion or fatigue. In short, the Written Scheme worked – and so did the product.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\t

\n\tMore importantly, Welsh Water achieved a step-change in their maintenance model:\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\t\n\t

  • Fewer Resources Required:<\/strong>\u00a0Inspection frequency was reduced from every six months to once every five years, significantly lowering labour, equipment, and site access demands.\u00a0<\/li>
  • Reduced Whole-Life Cost:<\/strong>\u00a0After five years in service, chains are removed, cleaned, inspected, and re-certified, then returned to circulation for use at another site\u00a0–\u00a0extending their lifespan and maximising asset value.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\t

    \n\tAnd in a sector increasingly focused on sustainability, reducing the frequency of site visits, chain replacements, and vehicle movements has also helped Welsh Water move closer to its carbon reduction goals.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\t
